WASHINGTON SQUARE FILMS WELCOMES DIRECTOR WILLIAM KIRKLEY

by Michela Galante , AdForum

Washington Square Films is pleased to announce that director William Kirkley has officially joined the
company. William has traveled the world creating commercial and documentary work for Heineken,
Chevrolet, Petco, Reebok, and SOS Children’s Villages, among many others.

William’s commercials exude substance and reality through his documentary style and knack for visual
storytelling. Beginning his professional career in NYC, where he moved at just 17 years old, Kirkley
befriended the Warhol Superstar and Beat Poet, Taylor Mead. Over a five-year period William made the
feature documentary EXCAVATING TAYLOR MEAD narrated by Steve Buscemi and starring Jim
Jarmusch, Paul Morrissey, Jack White and RZA. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and
was named by Art Forum magazine as one of the ‘Top Films of the Year’. It was also included in the
prestigious Whitney Biennial.

William is currently in post-production on his second documentary feature on a group of surfers and
hippies out of Laguna Beach that were, in the sixties, the largest distributors of LSD and Hash in the
world.

William enjoys all facets of filmmaking. Coming from a diverse background, he has a deep knowledge
of production, art direction, editing, and music. Says Head of Sales and Marketing, Jonathan
Schwartz, “William is currently working on his fourth Petco campaign with Washington Square Films
and we look forward to continued collaboration on future projects. He has a unique and fresh take on
commercial filmmaking and we are thrilled to have him.”
